Depictions of Saturn

Saturn is said to represent our bad and past karmas. It is depicted as a lame and old sage who is mostly engaged in meditation and bears a stern character. This sage acquires the role of our strict taskmaster - One who is humble and self-disciplined can win the favor of this celestial master. As our master grows happy with us, our core gets strengthened in the process too.

All of us have limitations in our lives and at one point in life we have to stand face to face with them. The aspects of our lives which we tend to ignore or avoid due to shortcomings in our outlook and attitude, Saturn compels us to deal with them. It shows us our reality!

Saturn is considered so powerful because it is our reality and denigrated as the most malefic by those who does not accept their reality. So a good way to pacify the powerful being is by coming to terms with reality.

For these signs the planet Saturn will be in the 6th, 3rd and 11th houses respectively, the houses in which Saturn brings favorable results.

Understanding Saturn

Like all other planets governing different aspects of our lives, Saturn is always present with us as our reality even when we fail to realize its presence. Saturn in our natal chart only indicates the part of our life that needs our special attention but the reality never ceases to be with us.

Saturn can be won-over not through fear, instead by being conscious of our reality and befriending it through proper understanding.

Dr. Robert E. Svoboda relates a story in his book The Greatness of Saturn: There was once, in the city of Benaras, a man who had become expert in calculating Saturn’s position in the sky. His calculations were so perfect that his fame reached the ears of Lord Saturn himself, who one day decided to come down to Earth to personally test this expert in his expertise. Saturn accordingly took the form of a Brahmana, and on meeting the astrologer asked him politely to locate Saturn’s position at that very moment. The man made his calculations, couldn’t believe his eyes, made them a second time – then suddenly realized what was happening and immediately lowered his head. Averting his eyes so that he would not be blasted by Saturn’s fierce gaze, the man humbly said, “Lord Saturn, you are right in front of me, at this moment.”
